KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A low-scoring game between two KCAC rivals ended in a 58-48 loss for Avila women's basketball against Tabor at Mabee Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Tabor took a 20-11 lead in the first quarter. Seven Eagle turnovers resulted in just 11 points for Avila, despite shooting 62.5 percent from the field.
In the second quarter, Avila's defense held Tabor to four points, but Avila was only able to amass nine on the offensive end.
At the half, Tabor held a 24-20 lead.
A tight third-quarter between the two teams saw the Bluejays extend their lead by one, to hold a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Avila was unable to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter and ended up with the loss.
Madilyn Melton was the lone Eagle in double-figures, putting up 19 points and four boards.
On the defensive end, Marlie Wright blocked a career-high five shots in the contest and Ashlyn Kuhlman grabbed three steals.
Avila will play an exhibition on Wednesday at Missouri Southern State at 6 PM before Christmas break. Avila is back in action in the new year on January 3 at Bethel.
