WOMEN’S WRESTLING HAS STRONG SHOWING BUT FALLS AT OTTAWA
OTTAWA, Kan. – Still competing with a small roster, Avila women's wrestling put up a strong showing at the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Ottawa on Tuesday night, falling in the conference dual, 33-14.
Avila's 18th-ranked Alexis Hatfield got the night started with a win via forfeit in the 103-pound class.
Avila was able to pick up two more wins in the competition, first from Nicole Redmond, who claimed victory via an 11-8 decision over Emma Truex in the 131-pound division.
The Eagles second victory came from Jaclyn Riedinger, as she notched a victory via fall in 2:31 over Lindsay Witt.
Avila faced two nationally-ranked Ottawa wrestlers in Payton Hand (No. 13, 124-pound) and Kaydence Bonewell (No. 19, 145-pound).
A quick turnaround sees the Eagles travel to the York Open in Nebraska on Saturday.
