YORK, Neb. – Still in search of their first KCAC win, Avila women's volleyball fell to York on Saturday, 3-1 (16-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-25).
York controlled each of the first two sets, never trailing in the first, and taking over in the second set following an 11-11 tie.
After trailing late in the set, the Eagles used a rally to take the third frame. Trailing 20-19 and on the brink of defeat, Avila used back-to-back kills from Sophia Giorgio and Maddie Jones to take a 21-20 lead. From there, Avila wouldn't look back. Kills by Sydney Owens and Jones gave the Eagles the 24th and 25th points of the set to wrap up the third.
In the fourth set, York never trailed and took the final set and the match in convincing fashion.
In total, Avila was led in kills by Megan Davies (15) and Jones (10). The Eagles had three players with double-figure digs: Giorgio (19), Owens (16) and Jones (10). Jones' double-double was her eighth of the season.
Avila is back in action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Ottawa for a 7 PM match with the Braves.
