WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SPLITS ON FIRST DAY OF COLLEGE OF OZARKS CLASSIC

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Coming off a big five-set win on Wednesday in Springfield, Avila women's volleyball split its two matches on day one at the College of the Ozarks Women's Volleyball Classic on Friday.

In match No. 1, Avila fell in three sets to Mid-America Christian out of Oklahoma City.

The Eagles kept it competitive in all three sets, but ultimately fell 25-19, 25-16, 25-19. Each time the Eagles would keep it close in any of the three sets, the Evangels would go on a run of their own to give themselves breathing room and take the sets before ultimately taking the match in three sets.

MAC hit .369 in the match, compared to Avila's .181.

Avila was able to gather itself and bounce back in the second match of the tournament, taking down William's Baptist, 3-0.

Arguably Avila's best match of the early season, Marylyn Mozena's swept William's Baptist handily, 25-15, 25-16, 25-14.

Emerson Sweet led Avila with a career-high 12 kills and a .733 hitting percentage in her sixth collegiate match. Da'Mya Dickson and Sydney Martin each led the way for the Eagles with 13 assists, while Martin's three service aces were a match-high for either squad.

Avila has won two of its last three matches and will look to make it back-to-back wins with two more matches on Saturday from southern Missouri. After defeating them in five sets on Wednesday, Avila will face Mission at 10:30 AM and end the tournament with a 1:00 match against the hosts, College of the Ozarks before returning to Mabee Fieldhouse for the 2025 home opener on Wednesday.
