Busch, Burman Earn Second Team All-KCAC Status

Avila women's bowling featured two of the top ten scorers in the KCAC this season: sophomore Claire Busch and freshman Kamdyn Burman were both named Second Team All-KCAC, the conference announced this week.

Unlike in other sports where the All-Conference teams are determined by votes from the conference's head coaches, the KCAC bowling All-Conference teams are determined much like All-Tournament teams at weekend events are: the athletes with the five highest averages at the events all of the conference schools competed in are named First Team All-KCAC, while the athletes with the next five highest averages are named Second Team All-KCAC.

Claire Busch stepped into a featured role immediately as a freshman last year, and saw that role increase this year as her sophomore year progressed. Already one of the top women's bowlers in the KCAC as a freshman, Busch bettered her average by six points as a sophomore, increasing it to 177.28, the best on the team among athletes that competed for the full season.

Busch finished in the top 25 in five of the team's 10 countable events this year, the most on the team, and she was one of two Eagles to finish in the top ten of an event – and that came at Avila's home event, the Eagle Invitational, where she ultimately finished ninth but missed out on the top five by less than ten pins.

Busch tallied the sixth-highest average across the four events that all of the conference schools competed in, placing her just outside of First Team territory. Still, she has now earned Second Team status in both of her seasons as a collegiate bowler.

Just as Busch did last season, Kamdyn Burman immediately jumped into a featured role as a true freshman this season. Busch finished the season as the Eagles' anchor bowler, and Burman finished the year as the team's leadoff, responsible for setting the tone to start off competitions. She finished the year with an average of 164.23 over ten events, third highest among all Eagles and second among regulars.

Burman placed in the top 25 of an event twice this season, including Avila's Eagle Invitational and Midland's Warrior Open, which proved pivotal in helping her attain Second Team All-Conference status. Avila has now boasted multiple women's bowling postseason honorees in each of the last two seasons, a strong achievement for a program that just completed its third year of existence under founding head coach Paul Wolf.

Ottawa earned a clean sweep of the five spots on the First Team, an impressive feat. The Braves' Holly Bridges had the top average of those five to earn Player of the Year distinction.

The complete list of 2023 KCAC Women's Bowling All-Conference honorees can be found below, and on the KCAC website.
