SOFTBALL’S WIN STREAK ENDS IN LOSSES TO OKWU

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The six-game winning streak that Avila softball was riding came to an end on Tuesday afternoon with two losses to Oklahoma Wesleyan, 7-3 and 6-2.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first in game one, Avila got three runs back with an RBI infield single from Marissa Espinoza and a two-run double from Emily Branson.

OKWU would score four unanswered in the fourth inning to put Avila away and finalize the 7-3 scoreline.

Avila had a few more opportunities in the second game, but four errors hurt their chances.

Oklahoma Wesleyan scored the first five runs of the game with runs scored in each inning from the third through the seventh.

In the sixth, Avila cut into the OKWU lead with an RBI single from Madison Kelly and a run-scoring error to plate McKayla Cotton.

Avila had two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to capitalize and dropped the second game of the KCAC doubleheader.

Looking to get back in the win column, the Eagles head to McPherson for a doubleheader with the Bulldogs on Friday beginning at 2 PM.
