ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Avila softball ended their regular season with two losses to No. 19 Missouri Baptist on Saturday, 11-1 and 8-0.
Facing off against a nationally-ranked team gave the Eagles plenty of tough competition as the program prepares to head to Branson, Mo., for the 2025 KCAC Championship next week.
Game one of the doubleheader saw Missouri Baptist score seven runs in the first two innings to give Avila a big hole to climb out of. Missouri Baptist added four more in the bottom of the fourth to end the game after five innings.
Avila's run in the first game came from a Sophia Medina RBI single to score Emily Branson and get the Eagles on the scoreboard.
Game two was a tighter matchup in the first two innings as McKayla Cotton kept the Eagles in the game as the starting pitcher.
The Spartans were able to get to Cotton in the third inning, scoring three on a pair of doubles and an RBI single. The home squad but up three more in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth to create an eight-run deficit for Avila and wrap up the 8-0 final scoreline.
After wrapping up the regular season, Avila will now prepare for the KCAC Tournament. The No. 3-seeded Eagles will face Sterling on Tuesday, April 29. Avila's schedule for the remainder of the tournament will be determined on the result from their opening game versus the Warriors.
