RAUL ROMERO NAMED KCAC MEN’S WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After pinning his opponent in the second-consecutive home dual, Avila redshirt junior Raul Romero has been named the KCAC Men’s Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced today.

“Raul is a spark plug for our duals,” said Avila men’s wrestling head coach Eric Mateo. “He has shown that he is a phenomenal guy to start our duals off with energy and conviction. Raul has earned this recognition with the work he has put in and I’m proud of how far he has come in terms of injury recovery, mental fortitude and technical improvement. I look forward to watching him continue to fly higher.”

On Thursday’s Senior Night versus Ottawa, the Kansas City native pinned Ottawa’s Kallen Koelzer in 2:10 to get the home dual off to a hot start and get the Mabee Fieldhouse crowd on its feet.

Romero is the second men’s wrester to earn this recognition this season, following Tyler Johnson, who won for the week of Nov. 3-9.

Romero and his Eagle teammates are next on the mat on Wednesday from Wichita, taking on Friends and Oklahoma City at 7 PM.
