SOLID PERFORMANCES GIVE MEN’S WRESTLING DUAL WIN OVER OKWU
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the program's final regular season competition and its final tune-up before the conference tournament, Avila men's wrestling defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan, 33-20, on Wednesday from Mabee Fieldhouse.
For the third-consecutive home dual, Raul Romero (125) got the night started off with a pin, winning over Jake Stanton in 2:18.
The next Avila victory came in the 157 class from Kristjan Marshall, who defeated Blake Velotta with a 60-second pin. Through five matches, Avila held an 18-8 lead after six points from an open in 141.
Bobby Thomas notched an Eagles major decision victory, winning 14-3 over Anderson Tate in the 165-pound division.
In the 197-pound class, Rodney Trotter Jr. wrapped up the night with a 17-2 tech fall victory over Cameron Pride. Gavin Howes picked up another six points in a 285 open to finalize the 33-20 scoreline over Avila's conference rival.
Avila will now turn its sights to next weekend's KCAC Championships on Feb. 21 from the campus of Oklahoma Wesleyan. Tickets for the 2026 KCAC Championships can be purchased here.
