MEN’S WRESTLING IMPROVES AT ROGER DENKER OPEN

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Highlighted by a sixth-place finish from Adrian Chavez, Avila men's wrestling had 11 wrestlers compete at the Roger Denker Open on Sunday.

In the 141-pound class, Chavez picked up four wins as Avila's placer from mid-Missouri.

Chavez tallied three tech falls wins (16-0, 18-3, 18-3) and a 9-8 decision to pick up a sixth-place finish for the Eagles.

Aaron Gomez was another top performer for Avila, picking up a quarterfinal win in a pin in just 40 seconds.

In 133, Aiden Pina notched a major victory, 13-1, in the quarterfinals.

In the 197-pound class, Alex Nunez notched a pair of victories on the afternoon. Nunez's first victory came via a 15-8 decision and he would follow that up with a 3:20 fall in the fifth round.
