TROTTER SHINES AS MEN’S WRESTLING BATTLES AGAINST TOUGH COMPETITION AT SPIRE DUALS

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Facing three nationally-ranked teams on Saturday, Avila men's wrestling battled tough against No. 9 Missouri Valley, 5-41, No. 23 Morningside, 12-32 and No. 25 Wayland Baptist, 14-35.

Against Missouri Valley, Rodney Trotter Jr., picked up Avila's win via tech fall over Emmanuel Ayi-Bonte, 22-1.

Taking on Wayland Baptist, in the 141-pound class, Tyler Johnson won a 5-2 decision over Gabriel Garcia. The Eagles two other wins came from freshman Nicholas Oji in the 174-pound division, winning via fall in 5:37 and Trotter picked up his second victory of the day with a 19-3 tech fall over Mario Palomar.

Against Morningside, Johnson picked up win No. 2 on his day with a 2-1 decision over Hunter Steffans. In the 184-pound class, Caleb Sharpe won with a fall in 1:49 over Joseph Monge. Finally, wrapping up his tremendous day, Trotter notched his third win with a 16-13 decision over Mekhi Boyee.
