FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES SHINE AT GRAND VIEW OPEN
GRIMES, Iowa – Nicholas Oji (3-2), Jase Motlagh (4-2) and Alex Nunez (4-2) shined in the freshman/sophomore bracket of the Grand View Open on Saturday, while Daniel Vines (4-2) performed positively in the open division for Avila men's wrestling.
Vines' four victories came from two tech fall wins and a pair of decisions (10-7 and 9-4) in the 141-pound weight class.
Freshman Nicholas Oji had his best day as an Eagle, picking up three wins, including two coming from major decisions. Oji was joined by his freshman classmate Alex Nunez, whose four victories in the 197-pound bracket came via a pair of falls, a major decision and a medical forfeit.
Sophomore Jase Motlagh wrapped up his competition going 4-2 with a tech fall, a fall and two major decisions.
Those three underclassmen and Vines were joined by Aaron Gomez, Aiden Pina, Caleb Sharpe and Ryan McNeel, who each picked up two victories of their own at one of the NAIA's premiere events.
Avila wrestling will travel to Fulton, Mo., on Thursday for a dual with William Woods before splitting the team and participating in both the Spire Duals and UCM Open on Saturday.
