Webb Ranked 15th in Final NAIA Poll
Standout senior Daryus Webb is featured in the final NAIA Men's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 of the 2023-24 regular season, the association unveiled last week. Webb has now appeared in every single national poll this season, from preseason to now – seven polls in total. He's the only Eagle that can boast that achievement. Webb also appears in the latest national rankings from wrestling media organization The Open Mat. Avila men's wrestling remains in the receiving votes tier of the NAIA national poll.
Webb has been excellent on the mat all season for the Eagles, starting with a pin victory in Avila's dual victory over William Woods in late October and ending with a pin victory in Avila's dual victory over Bethany in late January. He's won a total of 22 matches this season, by far the most on the team – no one else has more than 15.
And he's lost only seven times all season, and they have all come to wrestlers who are currently ranked ahead of him in the national rankings – a list that includes four guys currently in the NAIA's top ten in the weight class. Webb hasn't wrestled since that dual against Bethany as he prepares for another run in the KCAC Championships this weekend and into the NAIA Championships next weekend.
The senior from St. Louis dropped two spots to 15th in the NAIA in the 184-pound weight class. He was given the same ranking, 15th, by media organization The Open Mat.
In the final national poll of the regular season, not much has changed in the KCAC landscape. Ottawa (#8) and Saint Mary (#18) both remain almost exactly in the same spots as in the previous poll, while both Avila and Friends have one nationally-ranked wrestlers and remain in the receiving votes tier.
The latest NAIA Men's Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 can be viewed below, and on the NAIA website.
The next chance to watch Webb and the rest of the Eagles compete is this Saturday, February 17, at the 2024 KCAC Men's Wrestling Championships at York University in Nebraska. Webb will headline a full crew of 12 Eagles who will vie for a KCAC Tournament title and a potential berth to the national championships next weekend in Park City. Details on how to watch and follow along can be found on our website, avilaathletics.com.
