KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In one of the toughest tests of the season, Avila men's volleyball lost 3-0 to Missouri Baptist on Friday night inside Mabee Fieldhouse.
The Spartans, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll, used a dominating second set to run away with the match.
In the opener, Avila stayed within three points of Missouri Baptist. With the Spartans leading 14-12, MBU went on a 5-1 run to pull away and take the first set, 25-17.
In the third frame, the Eagles took the first point and stayed within three for the majority of the set.
Another 5-1 run from the Spartans gave Missouri Baptist the third and final set, taking down Avila, 25-20.
Playing three games in under 24 hours, Avila will host a tri on Saturday, beginning with UHSP at 11 AM before wrapping up the day with Central Christian at 3 PM from Mabee Fieldhouse.
