LATE GOAL SURRENDERED GIVES MEN’S SOCCER FOURTH-STRAIGHT LOSS

STERLING, Kan. – Avila men's soccer's losing streak stretched to four on Saturday after Sterling scored in the 87th minute to send the Eagles back to Kansas City with a 3-2 loss.

Beck Snowden picked up the third goal of his collegiate career early in the match to tie the game at one apiece before the two teams remained scoreless for the duration of the first half, entering the break with a 1-1 tie.

In the first 15 minutes of the second half, Sterling took the lead with a 59th-minute goal. At the hour mark, the Warriors led 2-1.

Less than 10 minutes after Sterling took the lead, it was another newcomer who got the Eagles back in the game as Mortaza Panja scored his first Avila goal off a perfectly-executed corner kick.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, the score was tied 2-2.

The turning point of the game came in the 87th minute when a Sterling attacker was taken down inside the box and awarded a penalty kick.

The Warriors stepped to the spot and buried the ball past Harrison Ennis to take a 3-2 lead and ultimately take the match.

In addition to Snowden and Panja's goals, Mazigh Hamchaoui recorded his first Avila assist on Snowden's early goal.

Avila will look to snap its losing streak when the Eagles return to action at Southwestern on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM.
