KAHUBE AND MACK NAMED TO ALL-KCAC TEAMS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Continuing their historic season, Avila men’s basketball had two student-athletes selected to three All-KCAC squads, the conference announced today.

Xavier Kahube was selected to the All-KCAC Second Team and Gio Mack was named to both the All-KCAC Third Team and the All-Defensive Teams.

“Xavier and Gio both had really good individual years for us,” said head coach Tyler Bredehoeft. “It has been a complete team effort this year, ‘X’ and Gio’s recognitions are a reflection of our team success.”

It is the second-consecutive All-KCAC honor for Kahube, after being named to the 2024-25 All-KCAC Third Team.

The senior from Kansas City, Mo., ended the regular season as the second-highest scorer in the KCAC, averaging 18.4 points per game. Additionally, his 66.9 field goal percentage is the third-highest total in the conference – and the highest total among players with at least 250 field goals attempted.

Bredehoeft: “Over the past two years, Xavier has proven to be one of the best players in the KCAC. It’s great to see that recognized by other coaches in the league.”

Kahube also ranked third in the conference with 7.2 rebounds per game and is one of just six players to average three or more assists per game while pulling down at least five rebounds per contest.

In his first season in an Avila uniform, Gio Mack made an enormous contribution to the Eagles historic 2025-26 campaign.

Mack’s 16.5 points per game put him No. 10 in the KCAC, but his 462 total points this season are the fifth-highest total in the KCAC. Of the top-10 per-game scorers in the KCAC, Mack is one of just four to have played in all 28 regular season contests.

Mack hit 66 three-pointers in 2025-26, the fifth-most in the KCAC.

“Gio has helped us revamp our guard play this year,” noted Bredehoeft. “He is a dynamic guard who can score it, distribute it and rebound it. His ability to rebound the ball was recognized by the league and helped him land on the All-Defensive Team.”

Despite standing at just 6-1, Mack finished No. 4 in the KCAC with 7.0 rebounds per game to go along with 4.2 assists per game. Mack is No. 1 in assists in the KCAC among players with at least five rebounds per contest.

On the defensive end, Mack’s 2.0 steals per game are the fourth-most in the KCAC and had 19 games this season with multiple thefts.

Mack and Kahube both led Avila with six double-doubles each this season.

This is the first season in which men’s basketball has multiple All-KCAC honorees since 2021-22 and Mack is Avila’s first All-Defensive Team selection since the 2019-20 season.

Kahube and Mack lead the Eagles into Bartlesville, Okla., tonight for a first-round KCAC Tournament matchup with Oklahoma Wesleyan, the program’s first postseason appearance in four years.
