WICHITA, Kan. – Despite four of eight players scoring in double-figures and a third-consecutive double-double from Xavier Kahube, Avila men's basketball was unable to overcome Friends, falling to the No. 17 Falcons, 96-83 on Saturday afternoon.
Avila kept it to within single digits for the first 15 minutes of regulation and Friends would hold the Eagles at arm's length for the final five minutes before half, stretching its lead to as much as 15 before Gio Mack made a three as time was expiring prior to halftime.
Out of the locker room, the Eagles would cut the lead to one just over three minutes into the second half.
Friends immediately hit a three-pointer on the ensuing possession, but Avila kept fighting back, bringing it again to a one-point deficit three minutes later.
From there, Friends would go on to extend their lead and not let Avila back in the contest, wrapping up the 13-point victory.
Redshirt freshman Logan Bishop tied a career-high with 20 points, Kahube finished with 18 and 10, his third-straight double-double and Gio Mack put up 15 with five rebounds and five assists. Off the bench, James Ross III added 12 points.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday night at Ottawa, tipping off at 5:30 PM.
