BASEBALL WRAPS UP SEASON ON SENIOR DAY

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avila baseball was able to celebrate its 11-man senior class on Saturday as the Eagles wrapped up the 2026 season with a 5-2 loss to Ottawa.

Nick Bowers, Tommy English, Jackson Foster, Corbin Hamman, Zach Hurst, Aidan Johnson, Hadley Price, Joey Reichmuth, Cashen Schranz and Zach Zwicky all played on Saturday while Antonio Villalobos IV started game one on the mound of Friday's doubleheader. The group was honored with a pregame ceremony before first pitch.

Ottawa used a four-run fifth inning to take control of the game, while head coach Matt Carpenter was able to play his senior class on Saturday and give them a send-off in front of the home fans.

Avila's offense came from two of its seniors as Nick Bowers opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single and Tommy English laced an RBI single of his own in the fourth inning.

It was an all-senior showing on the Avila mound on Saturday.

Schranz started the game and threw 4.1 solid innings, striking out three. Schranz ended his three-year Eagle career throwing 178 innings, striking out 155 opposing batters.

Jackson Foster came out of the bullpen to toss 1.2 innings, allowing just one run and a pair of strikeouts.

Corbin Hamman followed Foster and threw a solid inning, while Zach Zwicky came on and threw 1.2 perfect innings, while Hadley Price got the final out of the season on the mound, getting an out on just two pitches.

At the plate, English went 2-3 with an RBI and Joey Reichmuth and Zach Hurst each reached base once.

English finishes his two-year Avila career with a .331 average, with 10 home runs and 58 RBI in 82 games. 

The Eagles finished the 2026 season with a 20-27 record (11-25 KCAC) while Carpenter and his staff continue to build entering the 2027 campaign.
