KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Playing their final doubleheader of the season, Avila baseball lost a pair to Ottawa on Friday, 10-0 and 4-2.
Avila tried to get over the first game quick, losing in seven innings. The Braves scored all of their runs in the final four innings, highlighted by a five-run fifth to run-rule the Eagles.
The second game was played at a very quick pace and was much more competitive, coming down to the final at-bat.
Neither squad could manage a run in the first three innings before Ottawa got on the board first.
In the top of the fourth, the Braves used a pair of singles and a stolen base to go up 1-0 before Avila answered right back.
In the bottom half, the Eagles had two runners in scoring position and tied the game up on a two-out balk by the Ottawa pitcher.
Ottawa put up a three-spot in the sixth inning with a two-run triple and an RBI groundout to stretch its lead to 4-1.
Avila nearly had another comeback in them in the bottom of the seventh inning with the winning run at the plate and two outs.
JJ Stubblefield led the inning off with a solo home run to right field to cut into the Ottawa lead.
After two outs on three pitches, the Eagles lineup turned over.
Leadoff hitter Tommy English worked a five-pitch walk to force an Ottawa pitching change.
A second-consecutive walk from Isaiah Ramos brought Caden Stillwell to the plate with a chance to walk the game off.
Stillwell just missed a pitch down the middle and flew out to the deepest part of The Z for the final out of the game as the Eagles fell 4-2.
Avila has one game remaining in its 2026 season and will celebrate its 11-man senior class on Saturday afternoon for one final game with Ottawa, beginning at 12 PM.
