BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – With just one series remaining, Avila baseball traveled west on Tuesday to face Baker in one of the final games of its season, losing 8-3.
Baker scored its first two runs on a steal of home and a wild pitch and would add one more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
Avila chipped away in the seventh thanks to an RBI double from JJ Stubblefield and an RBI groundout from JJ Dain.
Baker would grow its lead immediately with four more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
An RBI groundout from Joey Reichmuth in the top of the eighth brought Avila to within four, but the Wildcats added an insurance run in the bottom half to finalize the 8-3 score.
The Eagles will wrap up their regular season with a three-game set against Ottawa at home beginning with a doubleheader on Friday before honoring its seniors on Saturday at noon.
