ATHERTON’S GRAND SLAM NOT ENOUGH AS BASEBALL LOSES TWO TO TABOR

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Neither a high-scoring game one nor a low-scoring second game went Avila baseball's way on Friday as the Eagles lost a pair to Tabor, 14-12 and 2-1.

Tabor scored four in the first in the opener, but Avila added a five-spot in the third – thanks in large part to a grand slam from Dylan Atherton. Avila added one more in the fourth to go up 6-5 after four.

The Bluejays tied it in the sixth before Avila added six more in the top of the seventh.

Three-straight RBI from JJ Stubblefield, Will Clark and Tommy English before another RBI from Caden Stillwell put Avila up 12-6 and in line for the win.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Bluejays scored three in the bottom half and five more in the eighth.

Avila went down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning to finalize the 14-12 loss.

The second game played out the opposite of game one.

Just eight combined hits and three total runs saw Avila drop the second end.

The Eagles lone run came off a sac fly from Stillwell in the first.

Tabor tied it in the second and walked it off in the seventh to take the win.

The two teams will be back at it on Saturday for the final game of the series at 12 PM.
