BASEBALL LOSES PAIR TO FRIENDS

WICHITA, Kan. – Avila baseball suffered two tough losses at Friends on Friday afternoon, 10-1 and 11-10.

Not much went Avila's way in the opener, as Friends got out to an early 8-0 lead after two innings.

Avila added one in the fifth on a run-scoring balk before the Falcons added two more to finalize the 10-1 score.

The Eagles could not have gotten off to a better start in the second end of the doubleheader, scoring seven runs and batting around in the top of the first.

Avila scored on a two-RBI double from Dylan Atherton, an RBI ground out from Aaron Mcleod-Smith, an RBI single from Vinny Neilson and back-to-back home runs from JJ Stubblefield and JJ Dain to go up 7-0.

Another Avila home run came from Caden Stillwell in the second inning before Friends scored three to cut into the lead. After two, Avila led 8-4.

The Eagles got two more in the third on a two-run double from Tommy English.

Friends scored three in the sixth to trim the Avila lead to 10-7.

In the bottom of the seventh, Friends scored on an error and had two men on base with the winning run on the plate.

The Falcons ended the game with a walk-off three-run home run to sweep the doubleheader over the Eagles, 11-10.

The two teams will play the third game of the series on Saturday at 12 PM.
