AVILA NAMED CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER FIVE-STAR AWARD WINNER
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the third-consecutive year, Avila University has been named a Five-Star Gold Institution by the NAIA. The 2024-25 academic year also marks the second-straight year in which Avila has achieved a perfect score.
Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.
“This honor reflects our continued commitment to excellence both on and off the field,” said Avila Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Women’s Leader and head Dance Coach Cindy Freeman. “Our student-athletes consistently go above and beyond – not only in competition, but in serving the community with integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and leadership.
Thank you to all of our teams, coaches and supporters who help build a culture of character every day. Here’s to leading with purpose on the field, in the classroom and in the community!”
Since 2009, Avila has consistently earned this honor in all three levels – gold, silver and bronze. The 2024-25 school year marks the fifth time as a Gold recipient and the 13th time throughout all three levels overall.
“This is a testament to our coaches and student-athletes and aligns with our mission and values here at Avila University,” said Avila Athletic Director Shawn Summe.
